All fresh cut tulips in Malaysia are imported from the Netherlands. Tulips are regarded as a premium flower by many Malaysian florists due to their scarcity. As tulips are imported only by a few local wholesalers, certain colours may not be available at all times.
While there are more than 20 commercially available tulip flower variants worldwide, Darwin Hybrid is the most common tulip variant imported into Malaysia (see example of Darwin Hybrid). Another variant known as "Double Early" (see example here) is available, but it is less common than Darwin Hybrid.
Flower Sugar receives new batches of tulips every Thursday and Sunday, and our tulips are rarely kept for more than five days to ensure the freshness of the tulip bouquets upon delivery.
Tulips can be kept at room temperature for 1 to 2 days (under equatorial climates). Tulips are heat sensitive, and their flower bulbs will open at room temperature. Tulips, as a temperate flower, require a lot of water in Malaysia's climate. Transferring the flowers from bouquet to a vase filled with water will increase the life span of tulips.
